Can I drive in Switzerland without a vignette if I avoid motorways?

Yes, you can drive in Switzerland without a vignette if you completely avoid motorways and expressways that require one. Be aware that even if you accidentally enter a motorway you are subject to heavy fines.

Examples for vignette free roads:

  • Cantonal and local roads
  • City streets
  • Rural roads
  • Most mountain passes

Note: The LSVA / PSVA is required for ALL roads in Switzerland, not only motorways and expressways.
